A Little Bit About LILAC

Welcome to our first blog post: A Little Bit About LILAC

We are Sami (left) and Jamie (right). We are LILAC, a musical artist from Pittsburgh, PA. Our name is an acronym that stands for Life Is Love And Creativity. It’s a motto that we really believe in and try to live by. We also chose LILAC because the flower itself perfectly aligns with our name. The leaves of lilacs are heart shaped, promoting messaging of love. Purple is also both of our favorite color. The coloring on lilac flowers is a multicolor dream. The chroma can range anywhere from a hopeful pink tone to a thought provoking blue, with a true lilac tone associated most with the flower in the middle. We hope that we can achieve such a range with our creative projects, hopeful at times, thought provoking at others and everything in between.

While we are a new artist, we have been best friends for nearly 10 years. We actually met in college and eventually became roommates. The idea for LILAC was planted in college, and has grown and transformed over the years. We went from concert buddies who gushed about the transformative experience of listening to music (though we still do this), to whispering in the dark across our bunk beds about our dreams of making music ourselves. Then, we became classmates in a music composition course, where our vision became a little clearer, even if we weren’t exactly sure how we were going to make it happen. It’s hard to put yourself out there and very easy for doubt to creep in, but if we waited until we were feeling 100% ready, you would never hear any of the projects that we create. Here we are, ready to share. We present ourselves in the most authentic way we know how. We made this music for ourselves, but we truly hope that you will like it too.
